Onions

Onions is like the most common thing in our daily life. I never thought it could be useful and deadly at the same time. My cousin sent me this email that I think I wanna share.

This is how it's being useful:

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people, there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different, the wife replied that she had placed and unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home. The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find  the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in NZ. She said that several years ago, many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year, she placed several bowls of onions around her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work... (And no, she is not in the onion business)

There is a P.S to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with the most interesting experience about onions:

Thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmers story.... but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia and needless to say, I was very ill... I came across an article that said to cut both ends off and onion, out one end on a fork and then placed the forked end into an empty jar... placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs... sure enough it happened just like that... the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

It is said that onions and garlic have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

How it could be deadly as well:

I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge and sometimes, I don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later.

Now with this info, I changed my mind... will buy smaller onions in the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Mullins is huge and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO>

Questions about food poisoning came up and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers. Ed is a chemistry expert and is in involved in developing most of the sauce formula.. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.

Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially made Mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the quaint essential picnic, with the bowl of potato sallad sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probable the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion. He says it's not even save if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in you refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in you hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probable be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even being to break down.

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions....

Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections because of excess Bile secretions and even food poisoning.

That's about it. I don't know how true this piece of information is, I just want to share. You may have read this or may not cz this is a forwarded email. =D

My house infested with rats?!

So one fine night, me and the family came home to find some food scattered around the praying alter.

And the superstitious aunt thinks that it's the wrath of my ancestors. (We did some offerings in the day time) She started thinking maybe the ancestors are angry with her cz she never prayed properly or something. LOL..

Then after some investigating, we thought it's the rats, cz we can see the food crumbles around it and evidence of bitten off instead or thrown.

But at the superstitious view, it can mean that the ancestors are unhappy with the food after taking one bite. LOL...

What could it be?? Dad is convinced it's rats, so he set the rat traps around the praying alter with some "delicacies". But it's not poisonous tho, it's just sticky so the rat will be trapped and it's up to us to decide how to kill it tomorrow. *ngek ngek ngek*

*The next morning*

I woke up and ask dad did we caught it? *excited tone*

He said: No.

OMG!!! So it's the wrath of ancestors?! @_@

Of course not! haha..  Dad said it's actually a cat with two(2) kittens.

How did it got in? Our maid left the sliding door open. =.=

So my dad saw the cats in the morning and "chased" it away.

Relieved right?

Well, not for LONG!!

At night after work, while dad was watching the news, some pungent smell penetrating his nose and he start the investigating game again. hahha...

And guess what, the cats urinated at a corner! Damn you cats!! Dad also found them hiding behind the TV rack.

Took a broom and hit it. It got scared and bolted leaving it's two(2) kittens behind. Damn irresponsible mom. But good also, easier to get rid of them now.

Lifted the rack and my brother grabbed the kittens and left it in the playground.

According to the sources, the cats were reared by some couple but they moved months ago and now they're strayed.

Too fucking bad that I ain't animal lover.

Slow-mo

There was this once that a friend of mine said "You don't get excited like how a girl would."

 I was like"wtf?"

Well, after some explanation, I understood what he meant. I don't skip around or scream on top of my lungs or squeals or have teary eyes when something happen in a sudden.

For example, my then bf, now ex baked me a cake. My reaction: aawww... so sweet. thank you! But truly in me, I didn't feel the excitement or wanted to tell the whole world about it. hhmmpphhh...

Back at that time, I thought to myself, "Hey, you can't blame me right? I grew up with three(3) strong and masculine man. I should be thankful that I didn't turn in to a tomboy or lesbo."

Growing up with only my dad and two(2) elder brother, basically turned me in super dominant and yet, I still reserved some girly part in me. In short, I'm like a man trap in a woman's body. And, trust me, it is a tragedy!

What is already predicted, I have more guys friends that girlfriends. And that wouldn't be so bad, cz I feel more comfy with guys. Worst is, some bitch may think that I flirt or "mandirum" the guys or something like that.

I blame it on how I was brought up. wtf.

Anyway, until four(4) or five(5) months ago, my best friendS are leaving to the States.

And it still didn't hit me with the fact that I won't be seeing them for at least a year or two.

Until the month that they are leaving, it slowly creep in me that I will miss them dearly. Or at least, miss doing the silly stuff with them.

Then only I hurried organized a farewell road trip with them that is action packed with all the things I'll missed without them around.

Still, that time, the feeling was anything less than a pinch!

You'd probably thought will I ever feel sad?

The answer is YES. Sadly, after they left. I realized that I missed them very dearly!

Nagen n Emo-boi, if you don't believe me, go ask Umar!! teeheeee..

And I actually updated my status on twitter and facebook that says: 2 in 1 week. I wudda break down and cry if I were anything less.

I thought I was strong enough and won't feel anything more than a pinch, I was wrong.

I broke down and cried. Terribly.

I never exactly cried so much for a friend. Even if we argued big time or he/she said or did something horrible.

Reason is, being with them also means being myself. Nobody cares bout anything besides having a splendid time. And our definition of splendid can be really simple. Just us.

We tease, humiliate, scream, argue, laugh, cried, puked(them) and loads together. Yet, it seems not enough.

So now, I will try to get my ass to NY. And this is not a promise as my mom wants me there on Oct. But I want to be there only on Dec for Xmas and New year.

*PAUSED*

omg. I strayed so far away. Anyway, that's when I thought, not only that I don't get excited-stimulated-aroused-provoked-stirred-whatever you call like a girl, I'm also slow-mo. fml.

There there, I'm not gonna prolong this post. This is the end. :)

Nagen and Emo-boi, please be prepared cz I will flash you my green light once my visa and all approved!! XD

We also gave him a surprise in the airport which he was late for 1 hour in comparison to the time he said he's leaving home.

His expression was priceless. A mindfucked look and he kept walking further and further. (Secretly, he's holding his tears.) LOL...

To the future pilot

It's really funny how people from different walks of life cross path and met each other and became friends ever since.

Yesterday, Nagen begun his journey  to Nebraska. And I just starting to rewind back all the way to how we first met.

It started where I joined my course mate Vidya to Asia Cafe to do revision for the College Maths quiz. And I was super concentrating and not talking to anyone. And Nagen was sitting next to me. And I swear to God, I didn't pay attention to him not to mention notice him. lol...

Then, I have this Art class, I saw this Indian guy walked in and smiled at me. I was thinking, what's the deal with him? Do I know you? LOL.... But of coz, I smile back, just not to be rude.

And after few classes of Art class, there was this one time that he was late to class and the only seat available was next to me of coz. hahahaha... And there, we started to talk more and more and became closer.

There was this incident in Starbucks that I will not forget. (believe Umar won't too)
I was having some daddy issues and was emo-ing terribly.

Nagen came to rescue! Not exactly la, but he came to comfort me and gave me the courage to confront my dad and tell him everything how I feel and yada yada...

Well, It didn't exactly fix the problem I had with my dad but I'm glad I said what I need to.

He is the type of friend that will stay with you when you need a shoulder to cry on. Someone you can rely on and doesn't need you to worry for him, unless his cell phone battery died. You'd think he got mugged or something. Did i mention it happens all the time? lol..

We basically went through the bitter first. Then here comes the sweet memories. I can't tell how sweet it is. Let the photos do the talking. =)

Enuf of the nice things about you. You are human after all, so I will also miss your egoistic, narcissistic, homosexual metro sexual behaviour.

And above all, we still love you no matter how or what you are. Take care and enjoy the time of your life in Nebraska. Lots of love!

Why did you started

to drink coffee?? I used to hate coffee, a LOT!

Still hate it actually.

I'm always sleepy in the office but I managed to fight it and never wanted to have coffee.

But today, I gotta drive dad  for his eyes checkup in PJ. So, I can't risk driving while feeling sleepy, right???

So I thought, what can keep me awake? First thing that popped in to my head was coffee.

Like it or not, it's going to help. So I decided to hit myself hard with caffeine.

2 packets of 3 in 1 coffee!!

Guess what, it worked.

But an hour or so later, I slightly feeling light headed. Felt like dizzy but not exactly dizzy. What is it??

I thought the caffeine cause my blood pressure to crash. But no, caffeine has no effects to blood pressure.

Then I thought, maybe I didn't had lunch. But I always skipped lunch but I never felt like this.

Why??!!

After thinking for a bit, I might be caffeine intoxicated. According to Wiki, it happens depending on the body weight or level of caffeine tolerance.

Well, of course I'm not that skinny lar... but basicly never drank coffee more than 5 times in my entire life. From what I can remember, this is my third time drinking coffee.

Believe it or not?! hehehe.... I hate the taste but somehow, I love coke!! hahah..

So, I guess my body could not accept the amount of caffeine in my body. sigh... Tonight will be sleepless or maybe not. Since I love sleeping, a LOT!

Today is officially the first time I drank coffee. Usually, I just sip from someone's cup for fun. Would I continue drinking? NO! Only when situation like this comes.

So do you drink coffee for it's taste or to keep you awake or for the caffeine rush(which i felt slightly like alcohol high)? lololol...

My iPhone

is the beginning of all the disastrous events recently.

But I'm getting a brand new one tomorrow. Will this new phone bring me luck or more cataclysm??

Either way, I'm gonna miss my old phone.

Not sure what Apple's gonna do to you. Maybe tear you apart? Anyway, just R.I.P.
